LAHORE: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) has started work on the country’s first online Skilled Labour Market Information System (SLMIS), TEVTA Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said on Monday.

He was addressing a meeting at TEVTA Secretariat.

“TEVTA graduates can submit their details that will be added to the SLMIS. The system will provide key information on the labour market, including trends, training opportunities and jobs in various sectors,” he said. Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi was also present.

Sheikh said that students of technical and vocational institutes and employers should get themselves registered on the web portal. “The web portal will also provide information on employment and unemployment rates in different industrial sectors and economic data. UK, South Korea, Malaysia, Philippine and Sri Lanka are currently using similar information systems,” he said.

“The labour market information from the Punjab is collected from district-level offices at the secretariat and then fed into the system. The training of staff for running the SLMIS has already been completed. Such initiatives by TEVTA will help reduce unemployment,” he said.
