Pakistan’s security czar met Britain’s top diplomat in the country on Friday, presumably to discuss issues related to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), officials said.
“Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan met British High Commissioner Philip Barton in Islamabad and discussed issues pertaining to the murder of Imran Farooq and MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s controversial speeches against Pakistan,” a senior interior ministry official said.
He added that Nisar and Barton also discussed ties between Pakistan and the UK, the regional situation and other important matters concerning both countries.
The meeting came just as Pakistan is mulling whether to send a legal reference against Altaf Hussain for his anti-state speeches. Last week, Nisar announced that a legal reference against the MQM chief would be handed over to the UK government in the coming days.
