Executions: 4 convicts to be hanged this weekend

Four convicts will be executed over the weekend in Bahawalpur after their appeals were rejected by the Supreme Court and the president.


A spokesman of Bahawalpur Central Jail said District and Sessions Judge Bahawalpur Rana Masood Akhtar had issued death warrants for Basheer Ahmed for August 22.

He said the man had been convicted of killing his brother-in-law and his friend over money in Hasilpur in 2002.

The jail spokesman said Zulfiqar, a man convicted of killing four policemen, would be executed on August 25.

He said Judge Khalid Arshad of the anti-terrorism court had issued the death warrants. He said Zulfiqar had killed four police officials, including an SHO, in Yazman in 1997.

The jail spokesman said two convicts, Muhammad Murad and Tajammul Abbas, would be executed on August 26. He said Dstrict and Sessions Judge Rana Masood Akhtar had issued their death warrants.

He said Muhammad Murad had been convicted of a relative over a property dispute in Qayampur in 1997.

He said District and Session Judge Lodhran Khalid Basheer had issued death warrants for Tajammul Abbas who had been convicted of killing a woman after raping her in 2004.
