NOWSHERA: A wireless operator of Nowshera Cantt police station was shot dead at his house on Thursday night.

According to the SHO of Akora Khattak police station, Abdur Rab was on leave from his duty and fast asleep when the incident occurred.

“Ghaniullah, the deceased’s father, told the police unidentified men barged into their house in the middle of the night and gunned down Rab,” said the SHO. “They managed to escape after committing the crime.”

Police believe the wireless operator’s murder was an act of target killing. An FIR has been registered and further investigation is under way.

One of Rab’s brothers had drowned a few months ago in Kabul River while another was hit by a boulder while he was working at a site in the district.

“Ghaniullah said the deceased’s mother and wife had lost consciousness after the murder,” the SHO said. “The trauma for the family is too great,” he added. “He said the family has no enemies.”

Rab is survived by his widow and three children.
