Public order: Detention under MPO challenged

The court has directed the secretary and the DCO to submit their replies in two weeks

LAHORE: A division bench of Lahore High Court sought a reply on Thursday from the home secretary on a petition filed by a man challenging his detention under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO), 1960.

Ashiq Hussain said following the secretary’s directive, the Chiniot DCO had issued an order for detaining him for 90 days. He said he was not affiliated with any sectarian or banned outfit. He said he was also not involved in anti-state activities. He said the detention order had been passed unlawfully. The court has directed the secretary and the DCO to submit their replies in two weeks.
