BALAKOT: At least five tourists were killed, while two others were injured Thursday morning when a vehicle fell into a ravine near Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Balakot area.

"A vehicle carrying six tourists and a driver was on its way to Naran when the driver lost control upon reaching Ghanol village," a police official revealed.

Police and eyewitnesses added that only the injured were shifted to Balakot Hospital while the deceased still remain at the scene.

According to initial reports, the accident resulted in the death of five on the spot while two others are said to be in critical condition.

Identities of the deceased and injured have not been ascertained thus far, however, investigation into the incident in currently underway.

Earlier, three tourists lost their lives when they drowned in the Kunhar River near Faridabad, some 15 kilometers from Balakot.

Five tourists were in a car when it plunged into the river. Two of them were rescued and are in critical condition, while the bodies of the three other could not be retrieved.
