Alma mater: Old Ravians’ Union concerned over delay in VC’s appointment

The Old Ravians Union (ORU) on Wednesday expressed its concern over the “unnecessary delay” in the appointment of the new Government College University, Lahore vice chancellor.

The ORU executive committee appealed to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to immediately appoint a permanent head for the university.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, ORU president Kamran Lashari said the admissions process in the university could be affected in the absence of the VC. “The presence of a vice chancellor is crucial for ensuring transparency, merit and above all financial assistance to the deserving students,” he said.

He said that the Old Ravians were concerned that their alma mater had been working without a head for more than three weeks. “This has hampered administrative and academic work. The future of many students is at stake, as sanction by the vice chancellor is mandatory for various administrative and financial measures,” he said.

ORU honorary secretary Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt said the GCU Endowment Fund Trust, which funded hundreds of students, had been unable to make several crucial investments due to the absence of the vice chancellor.

The Old Ravians Union executive committee members requested the chief minister to take note of the delay.
