Prolonged power outages sparked massive demonstrations against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company on Sunday. Hundreds of irked locals took to the streets in Mundaberi, Jattan, Ganj and Kohati and even protested outside Yakatoot police station.
Awami National Party leader Aurangzeb Khan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Amir Khan led the protesters who burnt types and blocked Kohati Road, Circular Road and Ganj Road for all types of traffic.
Similarly a protest was also held in Khadukhel tehsil of Buner district on Sunday. The tehsil plunged into darkness after the Mardan grid station was vandalised a couple of days back. Rival political activists joined hands in the protest.
Politicos have also called for a strike against the prolonged breakdowns in different areas of Swabi on Monday (today). “The voltage is too low and fluctuating. The entire district has been paralysed by Pesco’s apathy,” said Haider Ali, a resident of Swabi.
