Remembrance: Memorial reference held for three labour leaders

AWP president Abid Hassan Minto said the three leaders were committed comrades

The Awami Workers Party’s Lahore chapter hosted a memorial reference on Saturday for three labour leaders – Advocate Malik Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Ilyas and Ibrahim Bhatti.


The event was held at the Human Rights Commission Pakistan’s auditorium. AWP Lahore general secretary Shazia Khan opened the reference with a memorial note for the three leaders. She said Aslam’s political activism had continued till the very end. As secretary for the Pakistan Trade Union Federation, he was instrumental in bringing the workers together on a political platform. She said Bhatti was connected to the railway workers’ union. Muhammad Ilyas, too, was affiliated with the railway workers’ union. He struggled hard for workers rights’ within the institution but the government of the time fired him, Khan said. AWP president Abid Hassan Minto said the three leaders were committed comrades.
