BARA: An eight-day polio vaccination drive in Khyber Agency will draw to a close on Saturday (today).

The campaign had been initiated in collaboration with the political administration and Frontier Corps. The decision to organise a vaccination drive has been taken on the directives of the civil and military administration.

“So far, no untoward incident has taken place during the campaign,” Agency Surgeon Niaz Afridi told The Express Tribune. Afridi said the drive was largely successful.

“By the seventh day, we managed to vaccinate 5,729 children,” he said. “I am optimistic that we will be able to achieve our target and vaccinate around 17,000 children this year.”

Speaking to The Express Tribune, a FATA Health Directorate official said this is the first time a polio drive has been conducted in the region since Operation Khyber-I was launched.“Overall, it has been conducted in a peaceful manner,” he added.
