Pakistan Army lodges protest with UN group over Indian ceasefire violations

Three civilians were killed, 22 injured on Tuesday as India’s BSF resorted to unprovoked firing along Working Boundary

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army lodged on Thursday a strong protest with the United Nations Military Observers group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) against ceasefire violations by India’s Border Security Force (BSF), reads statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The UN has also been requested to investigate the incident, Express News quoted ISPR as saying.

At least three civilians were killed and 22 others were injured on Tuesday as India’s BSF resorted to unprovoked firing along the Working Boundary near Sialkot.

“The deceased include a 14-year-old and a 22-year-old, named Atif and Muhammad Adnan respectively,” according to an ISPR statement.

The =government also had registered on Wednesday a protest with the Indian government over the incident.

“The government of Pakistan offers its condolences and deep sympathies to the bereaved families on the loss of precious lives,” said a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement.

While the government conveyed its deep concern at the continuous unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian side at the LoC and the Working Boundary, and its targeting of civilians.

Pakistan, while condemning the border violation, also impressed upon India to observe the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding.

In a statement issued on July 27, the Pakistani military’s media wing claimed that India has violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and working boundary 35 times since June 9.

“A sudden spike both in terms of intensity, caliber escalation and air space violations by India has been observed along the LoC and working boundary,” said ISPR.

Hashmi | 9 years ago | Reply There was speculation in some circles when Naridnra Modi assumed the position of India’s Prime Minister that the responsibility of managing India will make Modi mend his ways and demonstrate a sense of responsibility expected from head of government of such a large country. However, he does not seems to have changed much from the days when he was chief minister of Gujarat where he was accused of playing an active part in the massacre of Muslims. And he seems to be continuing his mission by encouraging his soldiers to fire indiscriminately and without provocation on Pakistani side of the border, killing and wounding mostly innocent civilians. In addition to that, offensive statement by Modi personally, as well as his commanders are made every now and then. He also boasted about dismembering Pakistan by physically attacking the then East Pakistan though the real responsibility for that lies with our politicians and rulers, both civilian and military who, by mistreatment of Bengalese and by not giving their due share in jobs and other resources of the country, caused resentment and sense of deprivation which ultimately gave rise to the secessionist movement. It is only the utmost restraint demonstrated by Pakistani armed forces which is preventing such incidents from developing into a full-blown war. And launching of protest by Pakistan army with the United Nationals Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) is also a part of the Pakistani efforts to get the matter sorted out in peaceful manner. I would think the in consideration of prevailing anger among Pakistanis caused by the murderous approach of the Indian soldiers and their leaders, in his next meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, army chief should advise him to desist from sending mangoes to Modi and saris to his mother at least during the period of continued and increased hostility from India. I know Nawaz Sharif has to make efforts to safeguard and promote family’s alleged business interests in India but surely the feelings and lives of Pakistanis and the interest of the state of Pakistan should be ranked higher, at least by the Prime Minister of the country.
