Nab performance: ‘Rs3b recovered through plea bargain’

In order to uproot corruption, the government has enforced seven new laws that will help the bureau criminals downs

ABBOTABAD:

National Accountability Bureau Khyber-Pakthunkhwa Director Mirza Irfan Baig said Rs3 billion has been recovered by the bureau from corrupt officials and politicos through plea bargain.

Speaking at an anti-corruption seminar held at Jalal Baba Auditorium in Abbottabad on Wednesday, Beg said the bureau investigated 250,000 complaints filed by people from across the province.

“The idea of plea bargain has been borrowed from the American system of justice.” He said NAB has arrested 610 officials so far in the ongoing operation against corrupt elements.

“In order to uproot corruption, the government has enforced seven new laws that will help the bureau track criminals down.”

Also addressing the attendees, Hazara Commissioner Akbar Khan said grass-root awareness is crucial for the complete eradication of corruption from society.

He said the school syllabi should be designed keeping the cause in mind. “Corruption is one of the major causes of our hampered development.”
