KARACHI:

An arrested gang commander has revealed links between Ghaffar Zikri, who runs a group in Lyari in nexus with the Baba Ladla group, and politician Nabil Gabol.

Gabol left the Pakistan Peoples Party in March 2013 after two decades to join the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). In the past few months, however, differences have arisen between Gabol and MQM leadership, after which Gabol resigned from the party.

"Ghaffar Zikri made [contact] with Nabil Gabol in the recent past via mobile internet," said South zone police chief DIG Dr Jameel Ahmed while quoting the arrested suspect. "Gabol asked Zikri to create disturbance and unrest in Lyari saying that for that purpose he would be given money, bombs and weapons and the former UC-Nazim Lyari, Rauf Baloch, would give him the cash."

Gang commander Amir alias Amir Dhobi was arrested by the Kalri police. Ahmed said that the suspect is a close aide of notorious gangster Ghaffar Zikri.

"I don't know who Amir Dhobi is. I am ready to surrender myself if there is evidence against me. The fake cases are being implicated as I have talked about corruption in the Sindh government," claimed Nabeel Gabol, refuting Amir Dhobi's claims.
