Wind, Solar: AEDB pursues alternative energy projects

A detailed resource assessment of wind and solar in the country is being carried out

ISLAMABAD: Alternate Energy Development Board (AEDB) is pursuing development of power projects through private investors and managers to make operational five wind power projects operational with a cumulative capacity of 255.4 MW. In addition, nine wind power projects of 479 MW are under construction while another 16 wind power projects of approximately 1,000 MW capacity are under way. According to an official, in solar energy area, 100 MW solar power project has been completed whereas 1611.12 MW solar projects are in different stages of development. Several steps have been taken for the development of large wind and solar power projects through private investors which include announcement of upfront tariffs for wind and solar power projects, the official said. A detailed resource assessment of wind and solar in the country is being carried out through the World Bank’s assistance while a standardised project agreements  for investors have also been developed.
