Senior police official gunned down by militants in Swabi

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack

ISLAMABAD: A senior police officer of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police was gunned down in Salim Khan area of Swabi, militants claimed on Saturday.

Superintendent Police of the Elite Force Khairul Haseeb was heading home after offering morning prayers when gunmen riding on a motorcyle.

Haseeb was a retired major having served in the army. He had been posted to Bannu, but had returned to his hometown to celebrate Eidul Fitr with his family.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack.

PM condemns attack

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack on SP Haseeb.

He offered his condolences to the slain police official's family and expressed government's resolve to eliminate the menace of terrorism and extremism from the country.
