Helping hand: Bahria compensates timber market, heatwave victims

KARACHI:

Bahria Town handed over cheques to timber market traders and heatwave victims at the Sindh CM House on Monday.

The chief executive of the housing society Zain Malik distributed cheques among 24 families affected by the heatwave. At least 1,300 people died of heatwave across Sindh earlier last month. Each family was given Rs0.5 million.

“The compensation is being given to those families who have gone through due process of claiming at their concerned deputy commissioner offices, the same amount will also be given to those families who lost their loved ones,” the officials said.

During the ceremony the cheques were also distributed among 70 traders of the Timber Market who lost their warehouses and had not received any compensation. Each trader was given Rs1 million.

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was supposed to distribute the compensation amount, but he could not attend and left for Dubai.

Among others who attended the ceremony included Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah, Minister Excise Gianchand Israni, Sharmeela Farooqui and others.
