HYDERABAD:

Poverty-hit people working as food delivery riders face the peril of robberies in the Qasimabad area of Hyderabad.

A number of cases have been reported in which criminal elements order food online and when a rider arrives at the given address, they snatch food, cell phone and cash at gunpoint.

It is said that after receiving several such complaints, police have traced these criminal elements through the cell numbers on which the orders were placed.

"However, these numbers proved to be a missed call for the police," said a snatching victim requesting anonymity.

Due to the incident of snatching, riders are avoiding going to Qasimabad at night.

Recently, a rider named Babar Baloch was a victim of snatching. When Babar arrived at the destination to deliver pizza, two men threw chili powder in his eyes and snatched his mobile phone, wallet, watch and other belongings and fled.

A case of the incident has been registered at the Bhittai Nagar police station. However, no action has been taken against the suspects easily identified by the cell number from which the order was booked.
