Border safety: Bajaur Agency chalks out security plans for Eidul Fitr

Security forces deployed at crossing points between Pakistan, Afghanistan.

KHAR: The political administration of Bajaur Agency has finalised its security plans to try and ensure peace on Eidul Fitr.

Speaking to journalists at his office in Khar on Sunday, Political Agent Akhunzada Muhammad Yahya said the administration plans to take steps to prevent the infiltration of militants from Afghanistan during Eid to guarantee security to tribespeople.

“Security force officials have been deployed at all major crossing points between Pakistan and Afghanistan,” he said. “This has been with the help of Frontier Corps.”

According to the political agent, law-enforcement agencies and the political administration will remain in close contact with each other during Eid holidays.

“They will share information regarding threats of violence and activities of suspected militants in the region,” he said. “Furthermore, a joint team of all law-enforcement agencies will also remain on high alert to deal with any untoward situations.”

Yahya said check posts are being established in and around Bajaur Agency to block the entry of militants and quell any subversive activity.

In response to a question, the political agent said a ban on pillion riding will be strictly observed during Eid holidays.

“No one will be allowed to violate these orders,” he said. “Action will be taken against anyone who does.”

According to Yahya, aerial firing will also be banned throughout the agency.

Bajaur Agency shares a border with Kunar province of Afghanistan. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan militants have used Kunar as a springboard to launch frequent cross-border attacks on security forces and civilians.
