LAHORE: A special counter for polio vaccination will be set up at the Lahore General Hospital’s emergency ward during Eid holidays to issue polio vaccination certificates to people intending to travel abroad. The counter will be open from 8am to 2pm daily.

Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Khalid Mahmood announced this while presiding over a meeting in connection with eliminating dengue fever and other diseases. The meeting was attended by the medical superintendent, the nursing administration and heads of various departments among others.

Mahmood said the government was committed to eradicating polio from the country and all relevant departments had been working hard to stave off seasonal epidemics and diseases. He said Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique was playing a pivotal role in ensuring that all available resources were utilised for public health. He urged religious scholars, the youth and the media to come forward and participate in campaigns against dengue fever and other ailments.

Mahmood said doctors all over the province had been trained to provide dengue fever treatment under the PGMI’s Health Education Programme.

He said the masses needed to be made aware and sensitised about polio and measles so they could take preventive measures.

He said the media could air programmes on health education.
