RAWALPINDI:

Taking notice of the sale of substandard flour at Ramazan Sasta Bazaars in Rawalpindi, DCO Sajid Zafar Dull has ordered for collecting samples to send them for laboratory tests.

The DCO has warned that those found guilty of adulteration will be penalised and banned from doing further business in the Ramazan bazaars.

A source said the DCO office received numerous public complaints about the sale of substandard and inferior quality flour at the markets. The source added that officials have collected 38 flour samples from different stalls, which have been sent for lab tests. Action will also be taken against 13 flour mills for supplying substandard and inferior quality flour to stall-holders and shop-keepers.

Meanwhile, District Health Officer Dr Tahir and Chief Food Inspector Tanveer visited the sasta bazaars in Hydari Chowk, Committee Chowk and Khayaban-e-Sir Syed and collected samples of flour being sold there.

Flour mills including Al-Sajjad Flour Mills, New Fine Flour Mills, International Flour Mills, Capital Flour Mills, Al-Habib Flour Mills, Al-Mujihad Flour Mills, Majeed Flour Mills, Gul Noor Flour Mills, Jamil Flour Mills, Khurram Flour Mills, Al-Khazria Flour Mills, Ismail Flour Mills and others have been given the contract to supply flour to the sasta bazaars.

“Stern action will be taken against owners of flour mills if laboratory reports point to substandard and inferior quality flour,” a senior official at the DCO office claimed.
