Dera Ghazi Khan police detained 12 suspects and nine proclaimed offenders during their crackdown on robbery gangs in the area on Saturday-Sunday.
Police had set up pickets on Saturday as part of an operation against Aziza Girwar Gang launched last week after 15 men had attacked a police team during a raid. Biometric machines had been provided to policemen to check people travelling to Bait Sandila near River Indus. DPO Ghulam Mubashir told The Express Tribune the pickets were being manned by Pakistan Army.
He said a team headed by City Circle SP Shahbaz Elahi had searched shops near Block 11 Akhund Chowk and detained 12 suspects. He said they had been sent for interrogation. He said nine proclaimed offenders were also arrested.
The DPO said five people, including a woman, had been arrested for their links with Aziza Girwar Gang and harbouring some of the gang members at their house.
