SPD playing important role in strengthening country’s defence: PM

PM, DG SPD Lt Gen Mazhar Jamil discuss matters relating to Pakistan's nuclear, missile and space programmes

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday the Strategic Plans Division (SPD) has been playing an important role in strengthening the country’s defence capabilities.

“SPD has been playing an important role in strengthening Pakistan's defense capabilities,” the premier said during a meeting with the newly-appointed DG Strategic Plans Division Lt Gen Mazhar Jamil at the PM House.

According to the PM House, the two discussed matters relating to Pakistan's nuclear, missile and space programmes.

Further, the premier expressed confidence in the newly-appointed SPD director general.

“Lt Gen Mazhar Jamil thanked the government for reposing confidence in his abilities for this important assignment and assured the prime minister that he will perform duties to the best of his abilities,” a PM House statement said.

SPD is an important component of National Command Authority which is headed by the prime minister and exercises and control over the country's nuclear and strategic capability structure.
