Unhygienic food: PFA seals Yasir Broast, detains owner

LAHORE: Representatives of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Friday sealed the Faisal Town branch of fast food chain, Yasir Broast, citing lack of cleanliness and presence of unhygienic food in the outlet. The PFA team also detained the owner of the outlet, Malik Ali Hasan, and registered a case against him. The team took action after food inspectors discovered signs of extreme filth in the shop and deep freezers as well as the presence of unhygienic food.

AA | 9 years ago | Reply Excessive use of power, if there was unclean environment in a food service, they should give out citations with a checklist of actions to be performed in an specified time, then visit the place again to verify compliance. If not done on second visit then a chalan with penalty be given to pay in the court. Why would they suddenly show up and arrest people. How does that help improve environment when the person who would be working towards improving his place is now running pillar and post to keep himself out of the jail. It is a classical example of lazy departmental harassment, after which the owners will be contacted by middlemen for bribes or wait for a similar raid. Government should streamline the procedure to improve environment by working with owners of food service outlets rather that running after them to punish them. This extreme punishment system of lazy officials, just get up one day and raid someplace is an age-old harassment tactic to extort bribes by spreading fear among business owners.
