LARKANA: The Larkana Development Authority (LDA) allegedly leased out a forest department plot meant for nurseries to an influential person for 99 years.

The divisional forest officer afforestation, Arshad Kamario, took serious notice of the matter and sent a letter to the local authorities. The letter states that on Phull Road near Baitul Maal colony, a plot measuring one acre has been illegally leased out for 99 years by the LDA secretary to Gada Hussain, a resident of Murad Wahan locality of Larkana. This letter said that the lessee had completed all the required formalities and also deposited payment in a local bank account to lease the plot. Kamario said that the plot was given to the forest department in 1994 by the then Sindh chief minister and the LDA had no authority to lease out this plot. Kamario also said that he contacted the LDA secretary, Ghani Jatoi, who told him that no such letter had been issued by the LDA office and that the lease order is a fake. Larkana deputy commissioner Javed Jagirani said that the LDA had no authority to lease out the forest department land for which an inquiry will be conducted.
