US embassy holds memorial service for Holbrooke

The US embassy held a memorial ceremony for Richard Holbrooke, US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, who died Monday evening in Washington following heart surgery.
US Ambassador Cameron Munter with his wife, Dr Marilyn Wyatt, presided over the ceremony, which was attended by several hundred US and Pakistani employees of the embassy.
Munter spoke of Holbrooke’s longtime dedication to diplomatic service and of his accomplishments.
“We had just begun to see the impact of his work,” Munter said. “I hope all of us will contribute to the vision he had for making sure there’s a strong Pakistan in this region.”
Richard Holbrooke was 69 years old.
