Security for Ramazan: 35 sites in RYK declared extremely sensitive

As many as 35 locations in Rahim Yar Khan have been declared extremely sensitive and security around these areas has been beefed up ahead of Ramazan, a police spokesman said on Thursday.


He said 471 locations had been identified for taraveeh congregations. He said extremely 35 locations had been declared sensitive and put in category A.

He said there were 29 locations in Category B (sensitive). He said security arrangements had been finalised.

The spokesman said the district had been divided into five circles, 27 sectors and 91 sub-sectors.

He said pickets had been set up near places of worship and policemen would be deployed at entrances and exit points in mosques. He said police had been deployed around nine Ramazan Bazaars and 60 dastarkhwans.

He said abuse of the loudspeaker was prohibited.

The spokesman said some 1,900 policemen and 880 volunteers had been deployed for security duty.

He said Elite Force teams would be on stand by. Elite Force men had been deployed at five entrances and exits to the district.

Parking spaces would be set at least 500 metres away from public gatherings. He said snipers would be deployed on higher buildings while policemen would man the entrances.

He said control rooms had been established in all four tehsils for this purpose. Legal Affairs DSP Javed Iqbal would supervise the arrangements.

Emergency service plan finalised

Rescue 1122 has finalised a disaster management plan for Ramazan, Emergency Officer Malik Asif Raheem Channar said on Thursday.

He said leaves of staff had been cancelled.

He said Rescue 1122 would set up six key points in the city – one each at Chowk Fawara, Fareed Gate, Saraiki Chowk, Islami Colony, One Unit Chowk and the General Bus Stand at Model Town Block C.

He said Rescue 1122 staff and vehicles would remain in these areas during sehar, iftar and taraveeh times.

He said special teams would be deployed around mosques during Friday prayers. He urged citizens to report any suspicious activity to police.
