FAISALABAD:

Scores of transgenders living in Khushhal Town staged a protest demonstration against Saddar police on Thursday for failing to register a robbery case and arresting the suspect.

The protesters marched to Zila Council Chowk where they staged a sit-in in front of the secretariat of the district government.

Talking to newsmen, Naseebo, one of the protesters, Tauqeer and his accomplices had snatched their guru’s car. She said they had also taken away cash and jewellery from her as well.

“We complained about the incident to the Saddar police but they did not register a case and took no steps to arrest the suspects,” she said. The protesters blocked University Road for traffic and chanted slogans against the police.

Later, DSP Mian Shahid took a police team and met the protesters.

He assured them that the suspect would be arrest soon and taken to task in accordance with the law.

The protesters dispersed on his assurance.

Talking to The Express Tribune, the Saddar SHO said Madam Riaz had initially reported a car theft.

“We registered her complaint,” he said.

He said the complainant now wanted robbery charges added to the FIR.

“We are investigating the case. Robbery charges will be added if there is sufficient evidence in this regard,” he said.
