A glimpse into the world of Pakistani powerhouses

What sparked your interest in the beauty industry?

I always had an interest in beauty as I practically grew up in my mother’s salon. But it wasn’t until I started my degree in cosmetology that I truly started to love the art.

Trends and styles are constantly changing and people want to have the latest look. How do you manage to keep your clientele satisfied?

Depilex is one of the pioneers of the beauty industry and our core values have always been innovation, professionalism and education. Through these three pillars, we strive to give only the best to our clients.

What is the hardest part about working in the beauty industry?

There is a lack of professionalism which makes it very hard to find good, skilled workers with a professional attitude.

What role have you played in your mother’s recently launched halal makeup line, Musarrat Makeup?

Even though the Depilex Group has grown to be a very big organisation, at the heart of it, we are just a big family passionate about beauty. The make-up line, which was my mother’s dream, is really a combined family effort. My cousin Hafsa spearheaded the project and kept everyone in the family heavily involved at every step.

Is there added pressure on you to deliver the best service, considering that you are the daughter of the iconic Masarrat Misbah?

Well, I have big shoes to fill and honestly no one can beat my mother. But I am truly blessed to have her guide me through my career. Her life and struggles are a lesson, not just for me but for every woman in Pakistan.

How would you encourage women to become successful in their respective fields?

I would encourage all women to further their education in whatever field they choose, as much as they can, and to build a team around themselves. This will take them closer to their goals.

How has the Pakistani beauty industry changed over the past years?

Well it is now the third fastest growing women-oriented business in Pakistan and I am proud to be part of it. It has got huge potential.

You’ve already styled an impressive roster of celebrities in your career. Is there anyone else that you would like to work with in the future?

I would love to style Reham Khan!

Has your marriage with Shammal Qureshi, the heir of Toni & Guy, helped you in achieving success for Depilex?

I’m lucky to have found a husband in a close friend and that too, one who is part of the same industry. We both have very different ways of running our businesses which always gives us a fresh perspective whenever we need it.

Any advice you’d like to give to young women aspiring to work in the beauty industry?

I would advise them to follow their gut and never give up. And remember to seek professional help when needed, which is what we are here for.
