LAHORE:

Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought final arguments on a petition against overcharging at various parking lots in the city.

The petitioner’s counsel told the judge a parking mafia had been fleecing citizens. He said harsh exchanges between vehicle owners and parking lot staff over the rates had become routine.

CTO Tayyab Hafeez Cheema told the court traffic police dealt with complaints about overcharging at parking sites.

Justice Khan was dissatisfied with the statement. He said that instead of controlling traffic, traffic wardens were often seen chatting with one another on roads.

“Why is action not taken against the wardens who do not perform their duties with dedication?” Justice Khan asked the chief traffic officer.

The court ordered him to submit a report on actions taken against those overcharging vehicle owners at parking lots.
