Into the future: Officials target massive telecom growth

IT ministry wants to enhance exports of the telecom sector from $1.4 billion to $4 billion by 2020

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications claims to take contributions of telecom services up to 1.4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2025. Besides that, they want to enhance exports of the telecom sector from $1.4 billion to $4 billion by 2020. Sources on Tuesday said that the implementation of the proposed telecom policy would have a strong impact on the national economy and can help telecom revenue reach up to Rs800 billion in the next five years. They added that after the launch of next generation mobile services, the country has witnessed great heights being achieved in the sector.
