Decision time: Crucial MQM meeting today

KARACHI: While the Pakistan Peoples Party is dealing with the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F quitting the federal coalition, an even bigger crisis looms for the ruling party.

Another coalition partner, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), has convened a high-level meeting to be held today (Wednesday) simultaneously in London and Karachi in the wake of yet another verbal assault launched on the party by Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza. The MQM had decided to take the matter to the president and prime minister. There had been no official response from the two till Tuesday.

The crucial MQM meeting will discuss and delineate “all possible options” available to the party, according to MQM’s Faisal Subzwari – which would also include quitting the coalition. The MQM has 25 seats in the National Assembly, making it the fourth-largest entity in the house.

Ali | 13 years ago | Reply Yes, it is true that karachi has much developed in last 5 years under G.Musharraf and MQM govt. And one thing, If Karachi is being developed, It will also affect on Pakistan's economy.. MQM dont want any ministeries.. They already opposed NRO and RGST, things that are against people of Pakistan.. in next 5 years, MQM will gain popularity in Punjab and other provinces.. In this Punjab govt, , They are not doing work well , already accepted by Chaudary Nisar.. so ITs time for MQM to gain popularity in Punjab... G.Musharraf And MQM combination, great .... except 2,3 issues...without them, previous govt was outstanding.. they brought Pakistan economy to the highest level... and this is the thing that poor people of Pakistan want... Good economy........ !
