KARACHI: Fahad Hussayn, a Lahore-based designer, has finally graced the city by extending his retail range to Labels, Karachi. The collection, launched on Monday, includes prêt, luxury prêt and bridals. Speaking to The Express Tribune, Hussayn revealed the need to expand his base in the city by the sea, saying, “I had many appointments coming in from Karachi on a regular basis. The brides, who naturally panic a lot, were hardly able to fly up to Lahore. So, I had to come.”
“I had been planning it for a year and Zahir Rahimtoola [owner Labels] was very supportive from the beginning,” he added. His collection includes a variety of options for everyone. You will find intricate detailing of vasli and pitta work and also traditional maroori in diverse silhouettes. “With changing times, this trend has come in to the market. Girls and even boys [to some extent] want to look artsy; so we are catering to that market.”
Since the primary purpose of bringing his label here was to cater to brides, the designer compared the tastes of the modern-day bride of the two cities, “Every bride wants to look different and many styling options are available nowadays. I, on the other hand, give a margin to everyone to play with their outfits. The Lahori bride however, is relatively different; she wants more ‘bling’ in her ensemble.”
Revealing how he manages to deal with customers of diverse backgrounds and demands, “I rejoice meeting with my clients, and observing how they react. It helps me design a customised outfit that makes me feel good”. However, things have become a lot simpler with technology; girls just tell the designer what they are looking for through WhatsApp.
Hussayn, who will be available on appointments every fortnight, is currently in the city for already scheduled engagements. On whether or not his stand-alone store will be opened in the city, he said, “I can’t manage it. I’m a freaky person. I just closed my Lahore store a while back because of the work-load.”
