HYDERABAD: The data of 96,000 young men and women qualified in diverse trades has been uploaded to a government website in an attempt to battle unemployment.

Hyderabad DCO and Adminis-trator Aftab Ahmed Khatri said the information of youth qualified in more than 360 different fields has been uploaded on the Sindh Youth Employment Services (SYES) portal (www.bbsydpsindh.gov.pk). Khatri urged employers across the country to look at the resumes of these “trained, filtered, educated and energetic youth” and try and hire them so that they can help reduce poverty and unemployment in the province.

Khatri was presiding over a meeting in his office at Shahbaz Building, Hyderabad on Tuesday. The meeting was called to finalise the arrangements for a workshop on ‘Training Needs Assessment’ with reference to the employment of youths who have been trained under the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme (BBSYDP). The workshop will be held on December 21 in Hyderabad.

The aim of this workshop is to establish links with employers and organisations so that the latter can help BBSYDP graduates get jobs, said Khatri. He said that the business community, industrialists and heads of various organisations in the public and private sector have been invited to attend the workshop.

A total of 32,131 people were trained under the BBSYDP in 2008 and 2009 against the target of 50,000. At present, 27 per cent of these successful graduates have been absorbed in different organisations, informed Khatri.

The second phase of BBSYDP in 2009 and 2010 was somewhat less successful, with 29,558 youths trained against the target of 60,280. Training is still in progress, he added. They are also still registering candidates for the third phase and in Hyderabad alone more than 4,000 youths have been enrolled already.

DCO Hyderabad further informed the meeting that recently a survey of market-oriented trades was conducted by the BBSYDP management.

The survey helped them to identify more than 100 new potential fields related to engineering, science and technology and human resources, which they plan to include in the BBSYDP programme to enhance its scope.

He said that after the devastation caused by the flood, the importance of inducting trained young people into national and regional organisations has increased, especially with reference to the rehabilitation of damaged areas.

EDO Revenue Syed Barkat Rizvi, Consultant World Bank Sharif Ansari, President HCCI, Deputy Director Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA), Deputy Director Manpower Training Wing Labour Department and other representatives from government and private organisations attended the meeting.
