The first heavy-traffic vehicle and public service vehicle drivers’ testing track was inaugurated near Sangjani on Monday.

The track is of international standard where all practical tests would be conducted before issuance of HTV and PSV driving licenses, said the IG of National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) Muhammad Saleem Bhatti at the event. The practical tests of public transport drivers would also be conducted at this facility.

Representatives of transport associations, dumper associations and other heavy transport organisations participated in the inaugural ceremony. The representatives of transport associations admitted that most of heavy transport drivers possess bogus licenses.

Bhatti informed participants that such tracks would also be constructed in other major cities.

He emphasised that youngsters are our asset and road safety theme parks will also be established to create awareness among them.

Later on, the IG inaugurated the online branch of the driving license authority at Kamra where licenses would be issued under a one-window operation system.

Besides issuance of learners’ licenses, a facility for conducting online tests through cameras has also been provided at this branch.

The licences printed in Islamabad would be sent directly at the addresses by post.
