KARACHI:

Swimming or stepping into the sea has been banned for six months, keeping in view the tragedy that happened last year and claimed 40 lives.

"The ban has been imposed for six months from June till November due to the weather changes and high tides in the sea," commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui told The Express Tribune. "This is the time every year when the tides are really high and dangerous even for professional swimmers." The ban has been imposed just to avoid any mishap like last year's," he added. "It is a wise step to ban swimming before any incident happens and a precious life is lost."

He clarified that people are allowed to visit the sea. It is open for all and everyone is allowed to visit with their families and enjoy the cool breeze.

He said that lifeguards and police have been deployed to protect the people and stop them from swimming at Sea View.
