A member of the Punjab Assembly apparently did not learn her lesson the first time, as the second degree she submitted to the Election Commission (EC) was also discovered to be fake.

During the hearing of contentious degree cases, the panel of the EC conducting the initial proceedings informed the counsel of Seemal Kamran, an MPA from Punjab, that the degree from Shah Abdul Latif University, Jacobabad that she had submitted the second time was also forged. She had earlier submitted a degree from Punjab University that was declared fake. The panel has now fixed December 28 as the next date for hearing on the request of the MPA’s counsel.

Mazhar Hayat, MNA NA-38 presented a number of documents including copies of his university identity card, evaluation reports and a list of participants at the convocation ceremony as well as his passport. The committee asked him to respond in writing and to provide a complete set of relevant documents, adjourning the case till December 28.

Khalifa Abdul Qayum Khan, MPA PK-64 was informed by the committee that the seminary he was enrolled in is not included in the list of madrassas whose certificates are considered equivalent to a bachelor’s degree by the Higher Education Commission. His case was adjourned till December 20.

Meanwhile the committee asked the counsel for Nasim Nasir Khawaja, Syeda Majida Zaidi and Samina Khawar Hayat to submit written replies and credible documents and fixed December 20 as the next date for hearing.

Sardar Ali MPA PK-34’s representative Inamullah was informed by the committee that the second degree submitted by him has also been declared bogus by the University of Peshawar. The representative requested for the issuance of a notice to the controller of examinations of the University of Peshawar to produce the record before the committee which was accepted. The committee also asked Sardar Ali to appear in person.

The counsel for Yar Muhammad Rind MPA PB-31 sought adjournment on the ground that a petition had been filed in the Lahore High Court and Justice Sagheer Ahmad Qadri is conducting the proceedings of the case. The committee advised him to submit a written reply in support of his contention and the next hearing was fixed for December 28.

A representative for Saima Aziz, MPA PP-Reserved, sought adjournment on grounds that her counsel could not reach Islamabad. Her next date of hearing is in office.

MNA NA-267 Mir Humayun Aziz Kurd’s lawyer argued that his client’s degree is invalid but not fake. The committee advised him to provide documentary proof and submit a written reply in support of his contention, fixing December 28 as the next date of hearing. MPA PP-209 Ijaz Ahmad’s lawyer pleaded that he had already submitted a written reply with the contention that his client’s degree is genuine. The Committee informed him that the institution has not been conferred a degree-awarding status and his next date of hearing is in office.
