LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Ejaz Chaudhry expressed concern on Thursday over the killing of a Pakistan Customs officer associated with a money- laundering case against model Ayyan Ali.

In a statement, Chaudhry expressed reservations over investigation in the case. He demanded that the authorities also take into account former Sindh home minister Zulfiqar Mirza’s allegations of money laundering against former president Asif Ali Zardari.

“After the customs officer’s killing, it will be hard to arrest the real culprits. The Interior Ministry and the Federal Investigation Agency will not be able to catch the big fish behind Ayyan Ali,” he said.

Chauhdry said the country could never progress until corrupt rulers were held accountable.

PTI leader Yasmin Rashid said the money-laundering case had unnecessarily been delayed for more than two-and-a-half months. No substantial progress has been made in the inquiry, she said. She said the possibility of some people influencing the case could not be ruled out. She said murder of the Customs official appeared to be an attempt to influence the ongoing investigation.

Former PTI Punjab information secretary Andleeb Abbas said this was a test case for Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar. She criticised the political elite for protecting each other’s interest.
