FAISALABAD:

All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers’ Union regional general secretary Chaudhary Sarfraz Ahmad Hundal said on Thursday the government should raise salaries of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) workers instead of privatising the company.

Talking to newsmen at a press conference, Hundal said the FESCO was a profitable company. If political interference was curbed, the workers would ensure 100 percent recovery, he said.

He criticised the government for borrowing Rs14 billion from the Asia Development Bank at 17 per cent mark up.

He said many government departments owed the FESCO millions of rupees in payments.

He said the government should raise salaries of FESCO workers in view of the price hike.

He said the government had sold off two power distribution companies. He said the experiment had failed because their performance had deteriorated.
