The Lahore High Court dismissed the bail plea of a prayer leader arrested for violating the ban on non-essential use of loud speakers.
Justice Sardar Tariq Masood of the LHC was hearing the case. Counsel for accused Ahmed Sher Sabir Al-Qadri said the police had registered an FIR against him based on malafide intent. He said the police had held grudge against him and had implicated him in a false case.
Punjab Additional Prosecutor General Abdul Samad said Quaidabad police had registered an FIR against the suspect under Section 6 of Loud Speaker Act. He said on information from local residents, the police had raided and arrested him for using four loud speakers at a mosque. The judge dismissed the application and gave police the go ahead to arrest Qadri. However, the cleric exited the court room with his lawyer and fled before he could be arrested.
