KARACHI: Tired of the corruption and poor governance that has plunged the country and Sindh, in particular, into crisis, the Sindh United Party (SUP) has decided to launch a mass mobilisation and awareness drive after Eidul Fitr.

Addressing a press conference at Haider Manzil on Tuesday, SUP president Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah said that the Pakistan Muslim League — Nawaz and the Pakistan Peoples Party had failed to resolve the problems of the people because of their corruption and incompetence.

"Lawlessless has crossed all limits because of the incapability of the corrupt rulers, allowing the military to interfere and take up the responsibility of maintaining law and order, which is purely a matter for the provincial government," he said, highlighting the presence of military and paramilitary forces in most parts of the country. "Barely 37 per cent of the total development outlay was used during the fiscal year 2014-2015," he claimed, adding that around 60 per cent of the development funds lapsed due to the government's corruption. "The people of Sindh are devoid of all the basic facilities, such as healthcare, education, potable water and sanitation."

Discussing the prevailing water crisis, Shah said that the power supply to water plants was disconnected due to unpaid bills, adding that the Sindh government could resolve this problem by directly paying the electricity bills. He claimed that in many places, the people were forced to consume contaminated water.

"The history of Pakistan is witness to the fact that the Muslim League, PPP and military have ruled the country in turns and are, therefore, responsible for the current situation of the country," he asserted.
