PESHAWAR: At least two security forces’ personnel died and one sustained injuries on Friday when militants attacked a check post in the Ghulam Khan area of restive North Waziristan Agency. Security forces also killed 15 militants in retaliatory operations.

Officials said a group of militants stormed the check post in the bordering area with heavy and automatic weapons. The attack was so intense that two Touchi Scouts – identified as Naik Qasam and Jawan Tariq – died on the spot.

Another soldier, Fahad Mehdi Shah, also suffered injuries in the attack and was later airlifted to Miransha, the agency headquarters.

Soon after the militants’ attack, security forces mounted a search operation in the adjoining areas and killed five militants in retaliatory fire. Later in the afternoon, an official claimed that security forces killed 10 more militants in search operations that were under way till this report was filed.
