MULTAN:

Governor Rafiq Rajwana said on Saturday new provinces would be on created on administrative grounds with the support of provincial assemblies.

He was speaking to the media at Circuit House on his first visit to his hometown after assuming the office.

Rajwana said he favoured creation of a Seraiki province. “Two Provincial Assembly resolutions call for the creation of two more provinces,” he said. He said the government had allocated appropriate funds for the uplift of southern Punjab. He said the people in the region were fed up with mere slogans and wanted a real change.

“The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is the only political party in the country working for its prosperity. It serves all citizens irrespective of their linguistic and ethnic background,” Rajwana said. “My stance on the establishment of new provinces is clear. New units should be created in accordance with the Provincial Assembly’s resolution,” he said.

The governor said the people in the country had voted for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for a political change. He said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan should visit a fortune-teller to learn about his political fate.

The governor said the outcome of by-poll in PP-196, Multan, was alarming for Imran Khan. “People have rejected him and his politics by voting for the PML-N. I pay tribute to the people of the constituency and thank them for showing confidence in the PML-N,” Rajwana said.

Commenting on the law and order situation, the governor said the government was committed to eradicating terrorism from the country. He said the government believed in working with Pakistan Army to bring peace. “We will make sure that terrorists are defeated and peace is restored in the country,” he said.

Rajwana said the decision to appoint him governor was unanimous. “All political parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, the Awami National Party and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, backed me for the office,” he said.

He said the primer minister had instructed him to keep doors of Governor’s House open for public. He said he would work for the welfare of district and tehsil bar associations across the province.

The governor vowed to work for the uplift of health, education and infrastructure.

Chachoo | 8 years ago | Reply Mr Rajwana do not seem to be in his stable sense of mind. He is stating that new provinces would be established on administrative grounds while stating at the same time that Seraiki province have to be established that will be based on one ethnicity. I belong from South Punjab and Punjabis of South Punjab already reject any Seraiki province. Either there will be South Punjab or there will be no province. We will not accept any province in Punjab where a Fake identity of settlers will try to hijack the local population and will try to alienate them.
