‘Greenline’: Residents welcome new train service for Karachi

The Greenline train has five ‘technical stopovers’ each in Lahore, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Rohri and Hyderabad

Residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have welcomed the new train service between Islamabad and Karachi.


They said the ‘Greenline’ train will benefit the public as well as business persons of the two cities.

Razia and Basharat, who travelled to Karachi via the train, said the locomotive offered business-class facilities and affordable fares. They said the train took less than 23 hours to reach Karachi.

Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Muzammil Hussain Sabri lauded the new train service and said the government has improved the performance of Pakistan Railways.

The train provides central air-conditioning system, Wi-Fi connection throughout the route, three-time meal, tea, bottled water, newspapers and standard bedding.

Pakistan Railways General Manager Javaid Anwar Bobak said the Greenline train has five ‘technical stopovers’ each in Lahore, Khanewal, Bahawalpur, Rohri and Hyderabad. The train departs from Margalla Railway Station in Islamabad at 3:15pm and reaches Karachi Cantt Station at 2:30pm the next day. From Karachi, it leaves at 9:30pm and arrives in Islamabad at 8:45pm the next day.

The fare from Islamabad/Rawalpindi to Karachi and Lahore to Karachi is Rs5,500 and Rs5,000 respectively.

Qazi Farooqui | 8 years ago | Reply We Pakistanis are far behind the modern world in terms of communications, railways, highways and airliners. Green Line is an appreciable step towards the modern traveling mode. Railway network is required to be extended over many other areas of the country.
