Police officials have been asked by Karachi police chief additional IG Ghulam Qadir Thebo to install a complaint box at the entrance of all police stations.
A notification issued from his office stated that complaints against police officials are being received regarding the misuse of their official powers, the lack of FIR registration and the extortion of money.
Thebo directed that a notice board be installed at the entrance of each police station and it should be clearly written on the notice board that complaints against police officials misusing their official powers, not registering FIRs and extorting money should be recorded with Madadgar 15, along with their details and cell phone numbers.
The additional IGP will also pay surprise visits to police stations and, in the case of non-compliance of the above instructions, stern departmental action will be taken against the SHO and head muharrir concerned, the notification stated.
Another notification issued by Thebo's office said that it has been observed that the name of the police station or unit is not displayed on the mobiles in the appropriate place.
Further, the registration number is also not visible, which is against the rules. Thebo's statement reminded officers that the name of the police station, along with the name of the district or zone should be displayed properly in the designated area.
