Curbing crime: Robber shot dead in police encounter

The police team asked the men to surrender but they shot at the team.

A robber was killed in a shootout with police in Mamu Kanjan on Thursday.


CPO Sohail Tajik told The Express Tribune two armed men riding a motorbike snatched Rs5,500 from Sher Muhammad, a resident of Mohallah Rafiqabad, at midnight on Wednesday.

He said the Mamu Kanjan SHO took a police team and chased the men to Bulle Shah Chowk.

He said the police team asked the men to surrender but they shot at the team.

He said when police shot back, one of them was injured and fell off the motorbike. His accomplice managed to escape. Police took the injured man to a hospital where he died. He is yet to be identified.

Police recovered a motorbike, mobile phones, a rifle and bullets from the scene.  The CPO said a team had been formed to arrest the suspect.
