ACIAR Country Program General Manager says his country wants to help raise famers’ income

FAISALABAD:

Australia is eager to help Pakistani farmers improve their businesses, increase profitability and alleviate poverty through collaborative research and development programs. This was stated by Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) Country Program General Manager Dr Peter Horne.

He said that his country wants to help raise famers’ income and create new employment opportunities through value-chain improvement. He asserted that with the transfer of Australian knowledge and expertise to key sectors of Pakistan’s agribusiness, the latter could increase profitability and improve conditions of the people facing poverty.

He was heading an ACIAR delegation to hold talks with University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and partnering officials to shortlist priority areas of future collaboration under the Agri-Value Chain Collaborative Research Programme. The vice chancellor greeted the Australian team, thanked its government and people for extending their assistance to Pakistani partners.
