General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff visited the Air Defence firing ranges near Karachi on Monday and witnessed the launching of the FM-90 air defence missile system, recently inducted by the army in an exercise marking the culmination of the induction training of the new system.
The all-weather, surface-to-air missile FM-90, has the capability to engage aerial targets, including cruise missiles, drones and air-to-surface guided missiles and is able to operate smoothly even under adverse electronic counter measures (ECM) environments. The FM-90 missile system also has the ability to engage multiple types of targets at once. The system enhances Pakistan’s air defence capability both in range and accuracy.
Addressing the officers and troops of Army Air Defence, COAS appreciated the training standards achieved. He also emphasised the importance of Air Defence in today’s warfare and the need for continuous upgrade of equipment, as well as training to defeat a wide threat spectrum.
Earlier, on arrival at the firing ranges, the COAS was received by Lieutenant General Zahid Latif Mirza, Commander Army Air Defence Command.
