It has been 10 years since Telenor has been in the Pakistani market and this telecom is the only one that seems to be looking at the bigger picture. Here are 11 things this telecom did for the greater good of the country that other telecoms should definitely learn from:

In 2009, Telenor Pakistan introduced the first ever, and largest, branch-less banking service in Pakistan as a joint venture with Tameer Microfinance Bank. Nearly 500,000 transactions are conducted on EasyPaisa every day by 13 million active customers.

Thanks to this service, people living in rural areas of the country also have access to banks now.

It didn’t just say it was going to give equal opportunities to those with disabilities; it actually fulfilled its promise and provided employment too! Also, through programmes like Naya Aghaz they encouraged women to join the workforce as well.

The company that has Internet for All as its ambition is embracing Digital and winning accolades on its way there. In 2014, Telenor managed to win the Pakistan Advertisers Society (PAS) Awards for its ‘Customer First Day’ campaign in the ‘Best in Digital’ category.

We have all seen how many employers promise quality lifestyle at work and we have also witnessed them fail in living up to their promise. In 2012, because of the working environment and facilities it provides its employees, Telenor was ranked as Top Employer on Rozee.pk!

Considering Pakistan’s constant energy crisis, this point is very important. EasyPaisa has collaborated with Roshan Energy to launch a first of its kind Solar Home Solution. The innovative pay-as-you-go model enables customers to purchase and use Roshan Energy’s reliable solar solutions with an upfront payment of just 15%, whereas the remaining payments can be paid within 18 months through EasyPaisa. I don’t see anyone else trying to conserve energy.

This telecom also happens to be the first telecom company in Pakistan to be launching something as big as the Internet of Things. This endeavour aims to connect millions of devices to phone and to enable people in Pakistan to make the most of technology. So the next time you forget where you put your reading glasses, your phone might just be able to find them for you!

You’ll rarely find commercial companies that work for the betterment of the society. Majority have only monetary gain in mind but only a handful care about the customers and the society. Good job, Telenor! On its 10th anniversary, instead of beating its own horn, the company is staying true to its mission of empowering societies and giving back to the community. Here is to working towards the greater good! You can also play your part and share your #KaroMumkin stories here. For every story shared Telenor will donate to the SOS Children’s Village to make more #KaroMumkin stories possible.
