ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Monday foiled three separate bids to smuggle heroin abroad and arrested five suspected drug traffickers. The team also seized 24kg of heroin and heroin-filled capsules from them.

In the first incident, the ANF team intercepted two vehicles (RJ-568 and RI-851) near the Benazir Bhutto International Airport and arrested Muhammad Shafiq, Muhammad Imran, residents of Lahore, and Lashkar Khan, a resident of Peshawar, along with 12kg of heroin.

The heroin was concealed in the secrets cavities of their vehicles, ANF said, adding that the drug was being smuggled abroad.

In the second incident, the ANF airport team arrested a passenger at the departure lounge along with 12kg of heroin. The passenger has been identified as Qaism Ali, a resident Narowal. The suspect was intending to fly to Ivory Coast via Muscat and the contraband was placed in his bag.

Moreover, the same team arrested another passenger at the airport and seized heroin filled capsules from him. Acting on a tip-off, officials arrested Muhammad Siddique, a resident of Gujranwala, when during checking he confessed of having ingested heroin-filled capsules in his stomach. Siddique was about to leave for Italy via Abu Dhabi.

Separate cases have been registered against them under the anti-narcotics law.
