LAHORE:

Two female bears of the Lahore Zoo were named on Thursday by Punjab University (PU) students.

A ceremony was held to mark the event. About 70 PU students and 15 faculty members, including Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, Law College principal Dr Shazia and Centre for Undergraduate Studies Director Dr Amir Ijaz, were present. They unveiled the cubs’ name plaques and cut a cake. The students also decorated the bears’ enclosure.

Saachi and Sanj had been brought to the zoo two years ago from an animal rescue centre. The students said that it was an interesting experience to be affiliated with animals. They said that it would always be a source of pride for them.

Kamran said that the PU’s collaboration with the zoo over the past four years had provided students and faculty unique opportunities to study animals.

Lahore Zoo Director Shafqat Ali said the zoo was an asset for educational institutions. He praised the conservation efforts made by the university.
